FAQ
Where is the Party being held?
Common House Richmond is a private members club that hosts a variety of events and co-working spaces. Our party will be held in the Union Hall and Courtyard.
The address to the building is: 303 W Broad St, Richmond, VA 23220, the entrance will be through the courtyard on N Madison St.
Will there be food and drinks?
Of course! We’ll have unfussy finger foods, passed hors d'oeuvres, and beverages including beer and wine. Be sure to let us know if you have a dietary restriction.
Are kids welcome to attend?
Yes, children may attend but please keep in mind that this is not a “kid” event. We anticipate having upwards of 175 guests in attendance, so we encourage parents to consider whether or not this may be overwhelming for their littles, especially in the absence of amenities for children. Please note that we will not be offering specific kids meals but we’ll be sure to have food that appeals to a wide audience.
Richmond Hotels & Accommodations
Richmond has plenty of hotel and Airbnb options. We would recommend staying near The Fan, The Museum District, The Arts District, and Shockoe Bottom/Downtown.
We have a room block at Courtyard Marriott Scott’s Addition under the “Mills Sherry Farewell Party.” The rate is $169 per night plus tax, and you must reserve before May 13th. They have parking on-site for $12 per day. Its proximity to breweries and excellent restaurants makes it a great base for the weekend. If you stay here, you’ll likely see some of the buildings Jake designed!
The Quirk Hotel is one block away from Common House. It is both charming and convenient in equal measure! The hotel lobby and rooftop bar are delightful choices for a cocktail or lunch.
The Graduate Hotel is also a close choice with lovely rooms and a rooftop bar. We have a block with discounted rates under “millssherry fairwell” - use Group Code 500.
Event Parking
There are a few parking decks and paid surface lots near Common House, but street parking is usually available on the side streets and on West Grace Street. Most parking is free on Sunday but, if you don’t love parallel parking or parking decks, Uber and Lyft are affordable & readily available.
What should we wear?
The requested attire is garden party chic!
Think of what you might wear to Easter or a nice birthday brunch; a semi-formal dress code that is comfortable, yet stylish, typically featuring light fabrics, vibrant colors, floral patterns, and practical footwear. We don’t expect ball gowns or top hats, but there will be a photographer and all of the pictures will be posted in a gallery here.
Why are you moving to Spain?
Alex is attending IESE’s Full-Time Master of Business Administration program in Barcelona, which starts in August. IESE (pronounced E-ES-A) was ranked #3 globally by The Financial Times in 2025 and is listed as Poets and Quants “School to Watch” this year. Alex has been awarded IESE’s Women in Management Scholarship for “exceptional female applicants who have attained managerial experience and have demonstrated exceptional leadership qualities.” She was also named as a Forté Fellow.
Jake will also be diving into new territory — the world of international Architecture. He has accepted a new role with LaBella Associates who have 40 offices of Architects & Engineers around the world. Fortunately for Jake, they have offices in Richmond and Madrid offering a seamless transition to working remotely out of BCN. He will be continuing his focus on Mixed Use developments while delving into new sectors such as Sports Entertainment and Spanish Institutional projects.
Finn is excited about transitioning into apartment life with us! We’ve already scoped out a few dog parks in Barcelona and he’s practicing his “pata” and “siéntate”.
When are you leaving? When are you coming back?
We’re leaving at the end of June. Alex’s program is 19 months, so we’ll be gone for at least 2 years. After that, we have no idea what will come next!
What should I do in Richmond?
We’re so glad you asked! Richmond is America’s best-kept secret and we’d love to show you some of the reasons why we adore it so much.
